A Promising Premise:

Dunki's narrative revolves around a group of Punjabi friends desperately seeking to escape their bleak circumstances in India. They embark on a perilous journey, hoping to illegally migrate to a Western country through the infamous "Donkey Route." Hirani's signature blend of humor and heart shines through in the initial portions, as we witness the camaraderie and resilience of these individuals facing unimaginable challenges. 

Stellar Performances:

Shah Rukh Khan delivers a nuanced performance as Dunki, a man caught between desperation and longing for home. Taapsee Pannu is equally impressive as his feisty companion. The supporting cast, including Anil Kapoor and Boman Irani, provides able comic relief.

Dunki stumbles in its execution :

The film's pacing falters in the second half, with some scenes dragging and emotional payoffs feeling unearned. The humor, while effective at times, occasionally veers into slapstick territory, jarring with the film's heavier themes. Additionally, the social commentary, though well-intentioned, can feel simplistic at times.

If you're looking for a lighthearted entertainer with a social message, Dunki might be worth a watch.
